About Kamani Auditorium
Kamani Auditorium, at 1 Copernicus Marg, is one of the main stages of the Mandi House arts district. The Bharatiya Kala Kendra Trust built it as part of the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra complex. President V.V. Giri inaugurated it in August 1971, and the noted designer Tapas Sen did its lighting. The 625-seat hall (484 stalls, 141 balcony) has a 55 x 51 ft wooden stage and hosts big Hindi and English plays, musicals, Indian classical dance and music, and festivals. The National School of Drama has often used it for the opening and closing ceremonies of Bharat Rang Mahotsav, and performers from Birju Maharaj to Zakir Hussain have appeared here. The campus also has the Jhankar Hall in the basement, used for smaller events, and a 19,500 sq ft open-air arena.
Tips before you go
- Kamani is rented out to producers, so each show's organiser sells its own tickets, usually on BookMyShow or District. The monthly schedule on kamaniauditorium.org gives each show's booking contact.
- Shows marked 'Pvt. Show' on the schedule, such as school or college functions, are not open to the public.
- There is an in-house canteen and snack bar. For a meal, Bengali Market is a short auto ride away.
- Kamani stands right next to the LTG Auditorium on Copernicus Marg, so check which hall your ticket is for.
