The Akshara Theatre, formally the Akshara National Classical Theatre, is an independent arts complex on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, next to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Playwright-director Gopal Sharman and actress Jalabala Vaidya founded it and registered it as a society in 1980. They ran it with their daughter Anasuya Vaidya and also lived on the premises.
